So after upgrading my Toshiba laptop from Windows 7 to 10 recently, I was impressed by how smoothly it was all going until I plugged in my external HDD to have my system not able to recognize any of the files on it. The drive is being recognized as 'Local Disk (G:)' in file explorer however when I try to open it I get the message: 'G:/ is not accessible - The request is not supported'. Disk Management is recognizing and displaying the drive but is showing it as file system RAW The problem doesn't seem to be with the hard drive itself as it opens on my PC with no issues which is also running Windows 10. When I plug in my other external drive, a WD Elements USB 2.0, there is no problem accessing it. Looking into it, this seems like a fairly common problem across the last few Windows OS's, but after spending a couple of nights troubleshooting the problem, I'm unable to find a fix (possibly) other than reformatting the drive which I'm leaving to a last resort.

Action I've taken so far: • Tried using all available USB ports 3.0 & 2.0 • Confirmed HDD is not faulty with S.M.A.R.T scan and able to open it on PC • Updated drivers of USB Host controllers and USB 3.0 Root Hub • Changed name of drive • Uninstalled Toshiba disc creator and Recovery disc creator Any advice on a possible solution would be appreciated. Hi, I realize that you are unable to access the external HDD on your PC. I will try to help you with this issue. I would like to let you know that 'RAW' means the drive is not formatted. The partition has no file system and, as a result it is unreadable. If you have data on this drive then plug this drive into another PC and backup the data. Once this is done format the drive using NTFS.

Once this is done plug in that drive into this PC to check if that helps. Keep us informed to help you further. Hi thanks for the reply, I actually have no problem accessing the external drive on my PC.

Yes I understand the laptop is telling me the drive is not formatted but when I plug the same drive into my PC it clearly is formatted and I'm able to access all the data on it. I have been able to access the same external HDD on my laptop with no problems while it was running windows 7, the problem only started after I installed Windows 10 making me believe it may be a compatibility issue between my laptop and Windows 10.

Did some one solved the Problem with the Hitachi Touro Mobile Pro USB Harddrive in Windows 8? This drive is compartible with Windows 8 and get installed fine but in Windows 8 when you plug it in it gets installed as SCSI drive.

I am sure it should be installed as IDE drive. The result is you cant use the drive right, like slow reading of a file up to no reading at all. And this harddrive is relativly new so Windows 8 should be aible to do the job. I wrote to Hitachi Support and they told me Microsoft 8 is the problem and Microsoft told me Hitachi is the problem. The solution would be to re do the driver for USB 2.0 and USB 3.o so it can detect all USB devices correct and install the right driver. I did install Windows 8 now 3 times and this problem occours for me still.

So I will have to wait until this is solved, becourse I am not will to buy a new harddrive. Like I sad.I was contacting Hitachi and the driver are in Windows 8 but it does not get detected right. When you plugg in the drive and check in the Device Manager is says SCSI Drive.so wrong driver. In Windows 7 he drive works fine it get installed as USB Device not SCSI. And yes I downloaded all updates for Windows 8 and still the same Problem. With other words Microsoft is passing the ball to Hitachi and revers. My question is: When thos 2 Parties start comunicating with each other so all the Costomer from both Parties get satisfied? Yes the Drive is compatible with windows 8 and windows 8.1, but it does not open any files on the hard drive so useless.I talked with Hitachi and the have send the correct driver to microsoft, but it is up to them when they get integrated. This drive works just fine in Windows 7 Pro.
